Online shopping is second nature to us these days, due to vast internet developments over the past years. But one Welsh co-operative company stands out from the rest, offering an online service that concentrates on selling high quality local produce.

Pembrokeshire Produce Direct was launched earlier this year by a handful of local food business owners. The service allows anyone within the county to order produce on-line, which is then delivered on a Thursday or Friday, not only to private homes but also workplaces, schools, and various organisations. The service now encompasses over 55 food producers in West Wales offering over 2,000 products from meat and fish to vegetables breads, cakes, cheeses and drinks. And if access to internet is impossible, phone orders are taken.

The not-for-profit co-operative was developed with the assistance of Pembrokeshire County Council and funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

The project is gaining more and more interest from customers. Despite the fast paced world in which we live in, Pembrokeshire Produce Direct takes us back to our roots, giving people a chance to buy fresh produce straight from the producers, and this by protecting the community, the environment, as well as providing food as it is supposed to be eaten - at its freshest.
